Young children’s patterns of eye tracking while watching a short video were associated with likelihood of having autism spectrum disorder, a pilot study found.

An autism risk index based on eye movements was validated in two cohorts — an initial and replication sample — led by Thomas Frazier, PhD, of the Cleveland Clinic. Results were published in the Journal of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.

In this video, Frazier discusses the details of the study, the next steps in further development of the autism risk index, and its potential use in clinical practice.
